Grease Fitting Drill Tap Size Chart
Grease fitting drill tap size chart
What size thread does a grease fitting have?
The most common standard grease zerk size is 1/4"‑28 SAE‑LT and is often used in automotive applications. They can also be found in agricultural environments as well as other various standard duty applications. For heavy-duty applications, larger 1/8"‑27 PTF grease zerk fitting sizes can be found.
How do you determine tap drill size?
As a rule of thumb, for Metric threads, the tapping drill can be calculated by subtracting the pitch from the diameter of the thread. eg for an M5x0. 75 thread the tapping drill is 5-0.75mm = 4.25mm. For Imperial (inch) threads the tapping drill size is calculated in the same way, diameter minus pitch.
What is the tap drill size?
A good tap drill is 85% (± 2 pp) of major diameter for coarse threads, and 90% (± 2 pp) of major diameter for fine threads.
Are all grease fittings the same size?
There is no one-size-fits-all grease fitting. They come in various types, sizes and thread identifications.
Are grease fittings metric?
Metric Grease Fittings are available in both regular and stainless steel. Metric Grease Fittings are also referred to as Metric Zerk Fittings, Metric Lubrication Fittings, Metric Hydraulic Fittings, and Metric Zerks.
What thread are Zerk fittings?
SAE Products 1/8" pipe thread grease fittings are commonly referred to as 1/8" pipe thread zerk fittings.
What is taper thread for grease fitting?
Thread Forming Grease Fitting Thread forming grease fittings are used to save tapping cost, and have special tapered drive threads that reshape the material in an untapped hole to provide a leakproof seal.
What threads are used on grease Zerks?
SAE‑LT (Society of Automotive Engineers) threads possess SAE pipe thread dimension of 1/4"‑28 taper. Grease zerk fittings in the automotive industry as well as many other industrial machines and standard duty applications use SAE‑LT threads.
How do you read a tap drill chart?
The first column lists the standard drill sizes as a number (a fraction or letter drill size, for instance). The second column will list the inch decimal equivalent of the drill diameter of the the tap drill you need to use. The third and final column lists the tap size and the threads per inch that will be required.
What size hole do I drill for a 1/2 inch tap?
Nominal Size (inches) | T P I | Tapping Drill Size |
---|---|---|
3/8 | 19 | 14.75mm |
37/64" | ||
1/2 | 14 | 18.25mm |
23/32" |
What is the drill size for a 6mm tap?
A tap size of 6mm corresponds to a drill bit size of 5.2mm that is measured out to . 2047 in decimal inches.
What is the formula for tapping?
In/Min = RPM divided by # of Threads / in.
What is the drill size for M10 tap?
Tap Size | Drill Size |
---|---|
M10 x 1 | 9.1mm |
M10 x 1.25 | 8.9mm |
M10 x 1.5 | 8.4mm |
M11 x 1.50 | 9.7mm |
Is a 1/4 drill bit 6mm?
6mm Drill Bit (~1/4")
Why is it called a Zerk fitting?
The Zerk design, named after Oscar Zerk, used a fitting much smaller than the Alemite pin-type and did not lock the hose coupler or hand gun and fitting together. Instead, the seal between them was maintained by the pressure of a pushing action when the operator applied the coupler to the fitting.
What is the meaning of ZERK?
(zɜrk ) noun. a small metal fitting through which grease can be inserted into a mechanical joint that requires periodic lubrication.
Are Zerk fittings NPT?
Alemite is the original manufacturer of Zerk fitting and continues to be the “gold standard” for quality. These fittings have an 1/8″ NPT thread, Trivalent zinc plating, and are R0HS compliant.
Are there different types of grease fittings?
There are three major thread types for grease fittings: metric, taper or parallel, and unified. M5, M6, M7, M8, and M10 are common metric threads. British standard pipe (BSP), pipe thread fine (PTF), and national pipe thread fine (NPTF) fittings use tapered or parallel threads.
How do you know when a grease fitting is full?
If this is the case, the best tactic is to “feel” the grease into the bearing cavity until slight resistance or back pressure is felt against the trigger, or lever, signaling the bearing cavity is now full.
